Charlotte Parkinson Counsellor
MBACP Reg, BA (Hons). Dip Counselling (Falmouth)
I am an experienced counsellor who works with adults and young people aged 16 and above. I work to provide an accepting, empathic and authentic space as a base to gently explore from.
The sort of things we may explore together are the blocks that can get in the way of healing and living life more fully.
Experience has shown me that a confidential counselling relationship can bring re-connection to ourselves and others as well as inspiration through new insights, increased awareness and personal growth.
I work within the person-centred framework and when appropriate draw on the wisdom of Gestalt therapy which uses creative and flexible interventions to help us open up to new possibilities. Gestalt also asks us to look at our “here and now” experience and to open our eyes to the choices we make each day.
Amongst others, my clients and I have worked together on issues regarding sexuality, destructive behavior, difficult life transitions, bereavement, serious illness, abuse (in it’s many forms), trauma, blockages to self expression and spiritual inquiry.
I am grateful to have worked in secondary schools, higher education settings, a hospice and within the community.
I usually suggest we meet for six sessions which we will then review. My preference is to work long-term, however, each client has specific needs and for some a shorter contract is preferable which I am happy to accommodate.
After living in various places around the world, I moved to Cornwall 17 years ago when I experienced a deep knowing that this was the place to settle with my family. My practice is informed by personal exploration of embodiment in relation to self and others through dance, shamanic work and my love of trees, creatures, landscape and our planet.
“Out beyond the ideas of right and wrong doing there is a field. I will meet you there.” Rumi
