Natural therapies and remedies work with your body, not against it.
What does this mean?
Natural therapies and remedies stimulate your own internal self-healing mechanism to improve health and wellbeing.
When you are in good health, your body is very efficient at keeping toxins and infectious organisms at bay, healing wounds and balancing hormones. It has an extensive network of finely tuned, interactive body systems to help keep it functioning optimally. When you become stressed and rundown, these body systems can become out of balance, which affects your ability to maintain health defences and repair any damage that occurs. Natural therapies can help rebalance these body systems and reactivate your self-healing mechanism.
This is why a natural therapist will try to find, and rectify, the cause of your health problem, rather than just treat the symptoms. The symptoms will be taken into consideration, and treatment will include trying to alleviate them, but if the underlying cause is not dealt with, then the symptoms are likely to return. Symptoms are simply the body’s way of notifying you that something is wrong, something has caused it to become out of balance, and therefore unable to function optimally and keep you in good health.
Therapies include
physical manipulation and massage such as osteopathy and reflexology
emotional therapies may involve talking to a counsellor or hypnotherapist to help you find a way to overcome fears, anxieties or behavioural issues
medicinal therapies which include the prescription of natural medicines to help you heal
energy therapies which help re-energise and rebalance you, such as reiki or craniosacral therapies
Medicines such as homeopathic or herbal remedies, which are made from natural substances, have been used for hundreds of years to help relieve symptoms and rebalance your body as you return to health after illness, trauma or surgery. Natural medicines are prescribed on a ‘holistic’ basis. This means that your practitioner will be looking at the whole person, who you are, and how you have been affected, in mind, body and spirit. They will be trying to find out why you have become ill, and to rectify that, rather than simply relieving the symptoms of your health problem. This is to help your body rebalance and refocus, so that the symptoms will not return.
Our clients choose to come and see a natural health practitioner for many reasons. Here are just a few:
* I want to avoid the side effects I have been experiencing with my usual medication.
* My doctor doesn’t seem to know what is wrong with me.
* I keep going to the doctor but I don’t get any better.
* I feel I could do with some emotional support at the moment.
* I know my health problem is unlikely to be resolved, but I’d like to improve the quality of my life as much as I can.
* I know something is not quite right but the tests come back as normal.
You are the expert regarding your own health. You are the one that knows when things aren’t quite right.
Your natural health practitioner will take the time to listen to what you have to say.
Your natural health practitioner will need to find out the cause of your symptoms, so will ask a lot of questions about all aspects of your life and family background.
Your natural health practitioner will work with you to help your body heal.
Although our NHS provides a fantastic service, they often don’t have the time to explore your health history and relate this to the symptoms you are experiencing now.
Your natural health practitioner will look at you as a whole person, in mind, body and spirit, to help discover the cause of your symptoms and your personal susceptibility to illness. They will need to know your full medical history, any hereditary or genetic traits, and information about your diet and lifestyle.
Natural therapies stimulate and promote your innate self-healing mechanism to help resolve health problems and associated symptoms.
Osteopathy is a hands-on, manipulative therapy that involves working on the joints, muscles, ligaments, spine and connective tissue to help rebalance the body. It can help relieve all sorts of health problems, not just those of a musculoskeletal nature. Click through for more information
Holistic Massage is a hands-on therapy. We intuitively stroke and rub ourselves, and one other, if we are in physical or emotional pain, which stimulates our self-healing mechanism and eases pain. More information
Reflexology is a specialised form of massage. The soles of the feet provide a ‘map’ of the rest of the body, with certain points being linked to specific parts of the body. Applying pressure to these points stimulates self-healing. More information
Homeopathy is based on the concept that a substance that causes symptoms in a person, can be used to resolve those symptoms when used in an extremely dilute form. It does this by stimulating the body’s natural self-healing process. More information
Herbal medicine uses plants and herbs that help the body heal itself. These plants contain active constituents with proven therapeutic properties. Many pharmaceutical drugs were synthesised from plants. For example, aspirin from willow bark. More information
Nutritional therapy is the use of dietary advice, and often vitamin and mineral supplements, probiotics and digestive enzymes, to maintain good health, correct imbalances which can lead to ill health, and help support the body when it is trying to heal itself. More information
Hypnotherapy can help build your positives qualities and the positive aspect of your life to enable you to find solutions that suit you. Hypnosis can help make significant changes, that are long lasting and can help with addictions, anger, lack of confidence, insomnia, relationship/marital difficulties, fears, and phobias and much more.
